Ministry of Education and Science Technology presented a budget plan for 2009, amounting total 41 trillion 581 billion won on October 1. It is increased size by 9.4% than this year.
Total finance size if fund is added is 45 trillion 589.6 billion won. It is because local education financial contribution, R&D investment, scholarship for college students, tuition support and the like were expanded. English education support for fishing, mountain and agrarian village students, public boarding high schools, trade school, and independent private high schools addition for increasing education opportunities and strengthening global competitiveness are all main projects funded by government budgets.
However, teachers’ organizations and future teachers are strongly opposed to the point of number of teacher and hiring freeze because it contradicts President Lee Myung Bak’s statement of ‘No education, no economy.’
KFTA issued a statement urging “To hire more teachers for better quality right of education because teaching human resources are short in terms of number of students per teacher, number of classes per week, day long kindergarten class expansion, demands for special teachers for execution of people with disability education law and the like.”
