| <Commemorative Ceremony of the 28th Teachers’ Day is being held>
Commemorative ceremony of the 28th Teachers’ Day which the Korean Federation of Teachers’ Associations (KFTA), Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST), Korean Union of Teaching and Education Workers (KUTE), Korean Liberal Teachers’ Union (KLTU) and Korean Teachers’ Union (KOTU) co-hosted and parents’ organizations officially supported was held at Seoul Kyoyuk Munhwa Hoekwan on May 15th.
In encouraging address, Prime Minister Han Seoung-soo said, “Education is the key factor in national growth” and he added, “I express my gratitude and respect for teachers’ hard work”. He said, “I will make every effort for making teaching society vigorous by improving working conditions and welfare for teachers”.
KFTA president, Lee Won-hee said, “We are going through difficult period because of economic crisis, however the future of Korea is bright if we have educational passion and belief to make way to hope by education” and “I wish that Teachers’ Day is the day to give hope to all members of education communities.”
Lawmakers who attended in the ceremony on behalf of politicians showed same opinion by saying, “We will try to restore public education and help teachers working with dignity and pride.”
On the day, President Lee Myung-bak celebrated Teachers’ Day by sending flowers. In the ceremony, about 450 people including representatives from education-related institutes, teachers, representatives from parents’ organizations, awardees and their family, students and parents participated.
It was the 3rd to co-host commemorative ceremony of Teachers’ Day by the government and teachers’ associations after 1998.
