| Dear Colleagues,
I would like express our gratitude in appreciation of your concern and cooperation with the Korean Federation of Teachers' Associations (KFTA) in 2009.
This year, KFTA kept doing our utmost to defend quality public education and to secure teachers' status despite of global economic crises and carried out various programs under the motto 'Let's make our school a happy place to learn'
Especially, KFTA focused on improving teachers' professional ability with the belief that quality teacher as an education expert is the most important for quality education which everyone can be satisfied after 2008. As a part of related educational policies, 'Master Teacher' which KFTA negotiated with Education Ministry last year is legalized in 2009 and 'Sabbatical Leave for Teachers' which KFTA has urged the government is implemented as well.
Besides domestic activities, KFTA participated actively in international exchange programs to establish strong friendship with international teachers and their organizations such as the 4th Korea-Japan-China history seminar on peace education materials and the 25th Korea-Japan education seminar. In the 6th EI Asia Pacific Regional Conference, KFTA shared the latest achievement and current situation of Korean education and teachers and built friendship with EI members in Asia Pacific region.
Most of all, this year KFTA hosted '2009 ASEAN-Korea Education Leaders Forum' to mark 20th anniversary of Korea-ASEAN dialogue relation and laid the historic cornerstone in teachers' closer relation and educational development among 10 ASEAN countries and Korea.
KFTA will be an active participant in the international and domestic education community for implementing quality public education for all and improving the status of teachers all over the world.
KFTA wishes you and your organization a happy New Year, with the expectation of a continued friendship with KFTA. Thank you.
With best wishes,
Lee Won-hee, KFTA President
