The rate of Korean high school students going to college dropped last year for the first time since 1990, the government said Sunday, according to Yonhap News.
Statistics Korea also said in a report that the rate of female high school students entering higher education exceeded that of their male counterparts in 2009 for the first time ever.
Among those high school students who graduated in February last year, 81.9 percent entered colleges or community colleges, compared to 83.8 percent in 2008, the national statistical office said in the report.
The report added 82.4 percent of the female students went to colleges or community colleges, while 81.6 percent of their male counterparts did so last year.
