| The authority of teachers faces increased challenges from parents. Especially the authority of female teachers faces persistent harassment and an urgent solution is needed.
The KFTA announced the results of the 2005 Teachers’ Authority Infringement Case and Counseling Result research paper which focuses on practical cases of the KFTA counseling center in 2005. There were 178 cases in 2005 which are less than the 191 cases in 2004, but the suffering of teachers from outrage, abusive language, and threat increased by 30% from 40 to 50 cases. Teachers’ authority infringement is mostly caused by parental selfishness as the rights of the creator of educational policy are expanded without respecting the professional territory of teachers.
The suffering of teachers from school safety accident liability decreased from 51 cases in 2004 to 42 cases in 2005. Despite the decline in the challenge to the authority of teachers from school safety accidents liability is second followed by interference from parents. After that follows unstable status, school safety accidents, conflict with colleagues, and slander.
The paper shows that the violation of the authority of women teachers is more serious. The infringement of authority for female teachers reached 42.4% (25 cases) among cases of parental interference.
The violation of teacher authority in private school is also a serious problem. In the case of private school teachers, unstable status such as being transferred without reason and being forced into retirement ranked 1st . This reflects the status of a private school teacher as unstable and the KFTA emphasizes that provisions on stabilizing the status of private school teachers should be included in the private school law reform.
Based on the result of this paper the KFTA will expand the Educational Authority Fund of $769,000 to protect the authority of teachers. The fund will be used not only for designating attorneys and supporting court costs for teachers in trouble but also for protecting teacher authority and related preventive activities.
