The KFTA, the KTU (Korean Teachers and Education Workers' Union), and the Chosun Education Culture Trade Union of North Korea held a South-North Korean Educational Representatives' Meeting at GaeSung in North Korea on December 19th 2005.
70 educational representatives from 3 organizations attended. Mr. Kim Sung-Cheol, the chair of the Chosun Education Culture Trade Union of North Korea, announced 3 items agreed by with Mr. Youn (president of the KFTA) and Ms. Park (acting chair of the KTU).
Mr. Kim said the, ŗ organizations will hold a South-North Korean Educators' Rally in Pyongyang next year and in Seoul the year after next year. We agree that the South-North Korean Educators' Rally will be held at least once a year and we should promote more active educational exchanges between South Korea and North Korea.
In the address, Mr. Youn of the KFTA emphasized, "We should regularize South-North Korean Educational Representatives' Meetings and start full-scale exchange programs such as education seminar and historical field work" He added, "To deal with reunification issues in educational aspects South Korean educators and North Korean educators should make an unified effort and produce a joint-textbook on reunification."
Mr. Hahn Young-Man, the chair of the South-North Korea Educational Exchange Committee reported on the Joint Education Commemorating the June 15th S-N Joint Declaration that was planned to promote educational exchanges between the two countries said, "Based on this year's reunification education, we have to share more substantial activities with each other. Also we need established dates for South and North Korean Educational Representatives' Meetings."
After the meeting representatives from 3 organizations visited historical sites and a North Korean museum.
