102 nationwide teachers participated in the 2006 KFTA 2030 Winter Camp Festival, held at a Korean ski resort from January 10th to 12th.
This event was planed to stimulate young teachers' self-development, increase opportunities for young teachers in their twenties, and reinforce the membership through various programs such as ski training, teaching method study, and field work.
In the opening ceremony, Mr. Youn, president of the KFTA said "The KFTA is trying to improve its image through diverse and active programs. I hope that young teachers help develop the KFTA and tell other teachers about the efforts of the KFTA.” At night, participants had a recreation and free time session to share experiences with colleagues who worked in different areas and environments.
On the 2nd day, there was a special lecture by the KFTA chief vice president (high school teachers, Korean) on teaching methods and participants got advice from a veteran teacher. The last day included a field work session by visiting famous culture village.
Mr. Lee (Nammoon high school teacher, Seoul) said, "It is great opportunity to share difficulties and know-how which I cannot experience at school with peers. Moreover participating in the various programs of this event is very educational for me."
Ms. Lee (Samdong elementary school teacher, Southern Korea) who also participated in the Summer Camp Festival said, "The KFTA summer and winter camp festivals become a kind of network for teachers. I wish this event will be another chance to exchange information between urban and rural teachers or between primary and secondary teachers.
The KFTA 2030 Camp Festival, held twice a year is gaining good reputation among young teachers and the KFTA is planning to make it a regular event.
