The KFTA, the KTU (Korean Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union) and the Chosun Education Culture Trade Union of North Korea plan to hold 6.15 reunification classes modeled after last year.
The KFTA and the KTU, educational headquarter of the south’s organizing committee for Inter-Korean summit appoint South and North Korea’s Education Week from June 12th to 17th. They will hold a reunification class focusing on 6.15 South-North Korea Joint Declaration nationwide.
The two organizations explained, “The reunification class which teaches the details and meaning of the 6.15 Joint Declaration is the most meaningful reunification campaign. Let us share the sweet dream of reunification with our students.”
Each school can purchase a reunification candy box including teaching material, CD (video and ppt materials and songs), reunification candies, a piece of the reunification flag for about $10. The profit from selling the candy box will be used for educational equipment for North Korea. Last year a school bus was delivered to North Korea with the profits.
Even if teachers do not desire reunification candies, the KFTA let teachers download teaching materials from the website for students. The KFTA and the KTU expect that over than 100,000 classes will participate in reunification classes this year.
It is expected that the reunification class will be more meaningful this year because North Korean educators will have a South-North Korean Educators’ Meeting and visit reunification class in Kwangju, Korea on June 15th. South-North Korean educators plan to discuss the meeting of South-North Korean Educators of Pyongyang which will be held this July or August during this visit.
