<KFTA-UNICEF ‘Back to School’ Campaign Poster>
The KFTA is to carry out a ‘Back to School’ campaign with the Korean Committee for UNICEF and the Korea Scout Association for February 2007. This campaign is a program where students practice sharing and thinking about action for children who do not receive proper elementary education due to extreme poverty or disasters.
The campaign consists of ‘Sharing Newspaper’ contest and fund-raising program. ‘Sharing Newspaper’ is for a group of 3~5 people to make online or offline newspapers using their experience for sharing, and publishing newspaper articles. Excellent group will have an opportunity to visit an overseas UNICEF development place on January 2007.
Fund-raising campaign, ‘to be a friend with schools of the 3rd world’ program is in progress at the same time. Korean teachers save their personal allowances to raise funds for poor countries’ students. When there are Korean schools which want to give continuous support to a designated school, UNICEF links the Korean school with schools in poor developing countries such as Vietnam and Laos as ‘Friend School’.
UNICEF will also carry out a ‘Matching Fund’ which companies, communities, or parents add a matching amount of money to the student fund for a ‘Friend School’ and persuade affirmative involvement of companies and communities toward educational activity.
The KFTA asked for more schools to participate in the campaign through the internet newsletter and newspaper, saying that this campaign would be a significant opportunity to teach the importance and meaning of sharing to students.
