| <KFTA teachers and public officials participate in big rally against revising public official pension law>
On January 10th, the KFTA said that it would start an opposition campaign to the public official pension law reform by the government. The reforms are expected to make life difficult after retirement for teachers and public officials. The KFTA pointed out that “Even though the government raises the retirement allowance to the same level of private corporations but it also decreases amount of money from 70% to 50% of salary, this is nothing but a small trick. This is contrary to main purpose of public official pension law which is to compensate for public official’s low salary.”
As worry about pension law reform is spread, number of teachers who applied for early retirement was 1,918 as of February, 2007. This is 3 times more than last year (613).
On January 26th, the KFTA established a Special Committee on Pension Law that consisted of 11 members including the KFTA chief vice president, Mr. LEE Won-hee to prepare for related plans.
