The Korean Federation of Teachers’ Associations (KFTA) is planning to launch various commemoration programs in 2007 which is both time for the 60th anniversary of the KFTA and presidential election.
> 60th anniversary commemoration: revised KFTA General Platform will be announced in the 60th anniversary ceremony on November 23rd. The current KFTA General Platform established in 1959 was renamed in 1989. The KFTA decided to work for platform revision because the current platform does not reflect a plural teachers’ organizations era and changed relationships among teachers, students, and parents. The KFTA will publish the KFTA History of 60 Years and make a 60th anniversary commemoration video, new logo and commemorative symbol.
> Presidential election: The KFTA will screen the policies of the presidential candidates through forums and surveys to realize the educational policy of the KFTA into promises by the presidential candidates. The KFTA will invite presidential candidates and listen to education promises at the Educator’s Rally scheduled for October.
> KFTA presidential election: the 33rd KFTA presidential election will be held (2nd week of July). The KFTA will make this year’s presidential election (which all the KFTA members will participate in) as the biggest festival of the education community and take this election to strengthen the networking of the KFTA.
> Demonstration capacity reinforcing: policy and campaign to react to diverse current educational issues more actively. The KFTA will hold demonstrations and collect the views and demands of teachers to send them to the government and political community. The KFTA will hold regional debates and demonstrations on each educational issue to improve the local capability for policy and demonstrations. It will focus on online activities as well.
> Educational authority protection and professional development: KFTA will move to enact an Educational Authority Protection Law and Special Law on Improving the Status of Teachers to protect the professionalism of educational authority and the right of students to education. It manages various kinds of teacher training programs for the professional development of teachers through the KFTA Online Teacher Training Center and organizes an ‘Education Study Club’ to share more active teaching and learning experiences.
> More trust in the teaching society: ‘Education Communities’ Health Campaign’ which was started from last year is to continue. Supporting programs which help youth at risk by ‘1388 Support Team of Teachers’ with National Youth Commission will be kept on this year.
> Member service upgrade: KFTA will collect the opinion of teachers through the KFTA website and provide a total service through a one-stop network for members.
